Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

I am committed to ensuring that akhileshmalani.com and amasamya.com, which serve the portfolio and the AMASAMYA audit suite (browser extensions, Android app, and Web Audit Portal), are accessible to all people, including those with disabilities. As a blind professional who relies on assistive technology daily, I understand first-hand the importance of digital accessibility. This website has been built with accessibility as a core design principle.

Conformance Status

The target for this website is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level A and Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities. Level AA includes every Level A success criterion, so meeting Level AA means both levels are covered.

akhileshmalani.com and amasamya.com partially conform with WCAG 2.2 Level A and Level AA. Partially conforms means that most of the site meets the standard, but some parts do not. The exceptions are the two third-party components listed under Known Limitations below. Everything built and controlled directly meets Level A and Level AA.

Level AAA is not claimed. WCAG states that AAA conformance is not achievable for all content, and some AAA criteria cannot be met without changing this site's brand colours. Individual AAA criteria are met where practical, but no Level AAA claim is made for the site or for any page on it.

Assessment Approach

Conformance was assessed by self-evaluation, combining three methods:

  • Manual screen reader testing - Every page is operated with JAWS and NVDA by the site's author, who is blind and uses a screen reader for all daily computing. Testing is by real task completion, not by simulation.
  • Keyboard-only testing - Every interactive element is reached and operated without a pointing device.
  • Automated regression testing - A Playwright test suite covering every page is run before changes are published. It checks structure, landmarks, heading order, form labelling, and colour contrast ratios against the Level AA thresholds in both light and dark themes.

Accessibility Features

  • Semantic HTML - Proper use of headings, landmarks, lists, and ARIA attributes for assistive technology compatibility.
  • Keyboard Navigation - All interactive elements are fully operable via keyboard. A skip navigation link is provided.
  • Focus Indicators - Visible focus outlines on all interactive elements for keyboard users.
  • Colour Contrast - Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and interface components), verified in both light and dark themes.
  • Responsive Design - The site adapts to different screen sizes and orientations.
  • Reduced Motion - Animations are disabled when users have enabled reduced motion preferences.
  • High Contrast Mode - The site supports Windows High Contrast Mode through forced-colors media queries.
  • Screen Reader Optimised - Content is structured and labelled for optimal screen reader navigation.
  • Accessibility Preferences Panel - Users can adjust text size, enable high contrast mode, switch to a dyslexia-friendly font, and reduce motion via the accessibility settings button in the navigation bar.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts - Quick keyboard shortcuts are available (press ? to see the full list).
  • Breadcrumb Navigation - Inner pages include breadcrumb navigation for easy orientation and wayfinding.
  • Print-Friendly Styles - The site includes optimised print styles for clean hard-copy output.

Technologies Used

  • HTML5
  • CSS3 (with CSS Custom Properties)
  • JavaScript (ES5 compatible)
  • WAI-ARIA 1.2
  • Firebase Authentication (for the Resource Library)

Assistive Technologies Tested

This website has been tested with the following assistive technologies:

  • JAWS (latest version) with Chrome and Firefox on Windows
  • NVDA (latest version) with Chrome and Firefox on Windows
  • VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS
  • TalkBack with Chrome on Android
  • Windows High Contrast Mode
  • Browser zoom up to 400%

Known Limitations

  • Firebase Authentication Modal - The sign-in and registration forms rely on Firebase Authentication. While the modal itself is fully accessible with focus trapping and ARIA attributes, error messages from Firebase may not always be descriptively worded.
  • Embedded Google Drive - The Resource Library uses an embedded Google Drive folder. The embedded view may have limited accessibility within the iframe. A direct link to the Google Drive folder is provided as a fallback.
